Batik Making- Process

-The fabric is first boiled in water a few times before applying wax. This is to remove all the traces of starch, lime, or any other chemicals.

-Using Canting, a tool that is used for applying wax, wax is applied on the fabric.

-The first layer of dye is then applied to the fabric.

- When the dye is dry, another layer of wax is applied to the fabric.

-The second layer of dye is then painted on the fabric.

*As the dye dries, the cycle repeats until the artist is done with painting the dyes*

- When all the dye is painted on, the wax is ironed away.

- It is then washed and then left to dry.

Batik can be used as pillow casing, bedsheets, clothing, and even bags.
